If you're looking at electric bicycles at the moment, then you may not be sure whether to go for a pedal-assisted model or not. When you use these bikes, you have to do some pedalling even though the electric motor helps you out.

While it may seem odd to buy an e-bike that makes you pedal too, this dual system has some benefits. What are they?

1. Get More Exercise

A throttle-only bike gives you the chance to let the bike do all the work. You can choose whether to actually pedal or not. A pedal-assisted bike needs you to pedal, even though you change the settings to control the amount of effort you have to put in.

This ensures that you actually get some exercise while you're using the bike. This is a healthier option than simply riding a self-powered bike.

Even if the bike helps you along, the pedalling you do will make you fitter. As well as increasing your overall fitness levels, you'll also boost your stamina and get some aerobic exercise. You may even lose some weight, which may be a bonus.

2. Get Some Help

While you can choose to do all the pedalling work on an e-bike, this isn't really the point. After all, if you solely wanted to use pedal power, then you'd buy a regular bike. E-bikes give you help when you need it. They build in riding flexibility automatically.

So, if you're riding up a steep hill, then you can increase your motor power and reduce your pedalling strain, or if you're late to work, you can use the motor to speed up your journey; you can usually go faster on an e-bike than on a regular bike. Plus, if you're tired at the end of the day, you can let the bike do most of the work to get you home without feeling exhausted.

3. Get Your Bike on the Road

Depending on where you live, your state may have rules about where you can and cannot ride an e-bike. In some places, you may not be able to take the bike on paths and roads unless it has pedal assistance.

If you buy a compliant bike, you won't limit where and when you can use it. To find out more about rules in your state and electric bikes that will best suit your needs, talk to your e-bike supplier.
